Fiji was formed in 2003 when Simon and Menk Schüttel bumped into
Simone De Lorenzi in the streets of Berne. Rather than asking "Do
you like my tight sweater?" she said "Voglio fare musica.
Are you with me?". Simon and Menk have been part of the Swiss
pop scene for a number of years with Smartship Friday . Now with Simone
the trio made their Smartship Productions (incidentally also the name
of their own record label) recording studio their home, where they
spend most of their time performing, recording and mixing their uniquely
powerful, highly personal, authentic and sexed-up DiscoGlamRock with
attitude and verve.
ROSY
ROSY, their first album, was released in March 2005. It features 10
tracks buzzing with love for eighties synth pop, dancefloor electro,
pumping bass, intruiguing keyboards and classy femininity. A pleasure
to listen to, highly danceable and infective, the album is a pop gem.
It sold very well and appeared in several charts. In 2005 FIJI played
for enthusiastic crowds at clubs and festivals.
Amongst other places at the Jazz Festival in Montreux and the International
Film Festival in Locarno.
Energized by their glamorous live shows, filled with positive energy, enthusiasm, glamour and a straightforward rock 'n roll attitude, they launched themselves into writing new songs. Lyrics were penned, bass line that shook the neighbours were created, explosive electronic fat beats were put down and hunting keyboards were recorded. At the same time they continued to perform live, with an even bigger smile on their faces!
LE LOUP
LE LOUP is Fiji's second album. It was released on the 24th December
2006. Entirely sung in French, it fuses DiscoGlamRock with
a punk rock edge. LE LOUP is upfront, pumping and confident with dark
and intriguing corners. It features 11 songs that are sure to ignite
any dancefloor.
With LE LOUP Fiji won the international competition
2007 of the Jazz Festival in Montreux.
See FIJI live at their next concert - join the party, you won't forget
it!
